play's roster comprises premier league d&b artists from around the UK & beyond, with a healthy selection of up & coming talent, alongside some of the longstanding artists who have laid the ground for the scene we have today. play: artists are available for individual & group bookings / b2bs / label showcases, so please get in touch and we?ll see what we can do for you.

Image

equinox (uk)
(Scientific Wax, Bassbin, Breakin?, Metalheadz)

We're very pleased to tell you that Equinox has just joined the play:agency roster exclusively and with label partner Breakage, will be representing their newly launched Scientific Wax imprint.

A beatfreak (and that's understating it), Equinox was schooled on a musical diet of dub, 80's soul, jazz, funk, Detroit techno, acid house and hardcore. Equinox first found notoriety on the legendary Brain Records alongside Bizzy B back in the early '90s, when they also had releases on Hard Kicking Toons and Hardleaders. Towards the late '90s, Equinox ventured into house & garage and worked alongside the legendary Groove Chronicles label, before going on to release on drum & bass labels such as Intasound, Inperspective & Breakin'. Possessing skills honed by years of practice.....as witnessed at his regular appearances @ Technicality, London, Bassbin in Dublin, at BBC 1Xtra's Xtra Bass Launch Night and recent bookings in Holland and Austria.... Equinox never fails to impress.

dextrous (uk)
(State of the Art & King of the Jungle, BAFTA & Ivor Novello Award winner)

DJ'ing & producing for over 10 years, Dextrous is a scene veteran. Following his first release on Shut Up & Dance's sister label in
'92, Kool FM DJ & producer Dextrous went on to start his own label 'King of the Jungle' in 1993, which saw he & Rude Boy Keith travel the UK, N.America & Europe pa'ing & dj'ing and attaining legendary status for the label. Dextrous later launched Subliminal/Subversive Recordings and then teamed up with Paul Brown & Jon Stewart to record as Solid State on their new State of the Art label. Solid State were responsible for many 'urban/funk fusion' tracks which introduced a different flava to much of the music that was around at the time...most people will remember the lush 'Just a Vision' which more recently had the remix treatment from Calibre.

So, many may wonder what Dex has been up to...as well as composing library music for TV and films, he composed the music for Channel 4's 'Feltham Sings' in 2002, which resulted in him winning coveted BAFTA and Ivor Novello Awards. Still involved in music education, Dex is finding time to get back into the studio. This year, he's been slowing down the bpms somewhat & revisiting the Solid State sound via broken beat & future jazz tracks. He's delving back into the depths of drum & bass too, including taking on dj bookings in Europe this year where he was v.well received. ;-)

EMCEES / VOCALISTS:

Image

deeizm (uk)
(Good Looking Organisation / Progression Sessions, Human Elements Recordings)

Deeizm....this multi-talented artist sings, raps, plays the drums, dj's and is now moving into production, having set up her own studio. With an album deal at 17 years old and a CV firmly rooted within underground dance music, Deeizm's vocals later featured on numerous house & UK garage tracks such as 'Madness', 'What's This', 'Irresistible' and 'Glad U Came 2me'. She dj'd at house & garage events and began mixing d&b as well, going on to perform emcee/dj sets in Tokyo.

Best known to the d&b scene as v.talented emcee/vocalist, Deeizm is renowned for her Progression Sessions sets alongside Makoto & guest djs at worldwide Good Looking events. Deeizm's stage presence, lyrics & vocal ability are praised universally and once you've witnessed her live, complementing many styles of d&b, you'll know why. Watch out for 'Look of Love' by Makoto, Deeizm & Kabuki forthcoming on Liquid V, as well as a number of downtempo & hiphop tracks yet to touch down. In addition to all of this, Deeizm is working on a couple of live music projects and continuing to tour worldwide with Makoto....exciting times. ;-)

joker d (uk)
(Kool FM, Fever, Impact)

Joker D is an exciting emcee talent whose presence on the drum & bass circuit is deserving of acknowledgment. He's a man of many words and as his emcee name suggests, he is very much the joker! But don't be fooled.. when it comes to the business of emceeing at events & on radio, spitting lyrics and creating vibes are the order of the day for this young emcee. From his introduction to drum & bass in the early Nineties to his present day mc'ing, Joker has developed a versatile style & flow that enables him to adapt responsively to hosting and hyping up the crowds at events.

Gaining valuable experience on pirate radio stations such as Addiction FM in 1998 and more recently on Kool FM 94.6, Pyrotechnic Radio & UK Rumble, Joker D progressed to emceeing at drum & bass events in 1998, making his debut at Addicted to Dance @ Pleasure Rooms. Joker D's gigs have been plentiful to date and include the rare opportunity to host a Full Moon Party in Thailand whilst travelling there in 2001.

Memorable sets for Joker D are a 3 hr set on the 1Xtra stage at Global Gathering 2005, alongside Flight & Rodney P and the Clash of the Titans NYE bash (2003/04), along with all the regular bookings which have brought him to where he is today, such as Rollercoaster, Impact and Fever.

Joker D's future plans are two-fold: he continues to focus on emceeing on radio & at club events in the UK and Worldwide ? with Canada, Europe and Asia at the top of his list of 'must see' locations. His next goal is to immerse himself in studio projects, both as an emcee and producer.

stamina (uk) [* non-exclusive]
(Movement, V)

Stamina's venture into music began in Feb 1994 & having just started mixing, his mind was firmly focused on Djing. Music of that time was heavily influenced by reggae/ragga and for fun, Stamina would write little lyrics to fit with the tunes he owned. Time passed, and more material was written - it seemed he was to be an emcee too.

Stamina got his first pirate radio station show on Pressure FM in 1996 and this provided a real opportunity to develop his style, hosting 2 hour sets each weekend to London listeners, as well as taking on some emcee bookings in London clubs, which offered further invaluable experience.

In 2000 he joined the ranks of London club Movement? where he was booked for a weekly slot, which later the same year was to become a residency. Stamina met Brasilian DJs Marky & Patife in 2001 and this team has proved to be very successful. Stamina was part of unprecedented crossover successes in the following years, providing vocals for "LK" with Marky & XRS and "Barcelona" with Austria-based duo D.Kay & Epsilon. These tracks reached No. 17 and No. 14 in the UK Top 20 in 2002 & 2003 respectively, launching a then virtually unknown MC into new areas within the scene. Stamina has also been part of award-winning Drum & Bass act London Elektricity LIVE since its inception in May 2003.

With a voice has taken him across the world to the present day, Stamina has performed at festivals such as Homelands, Love Box, Creamfields and Glastonbury in his native UK, as well as many others worldwide such as Montreaux Jazz Festival, Skolbeats, Lowlands, Exit, Meco. For the future Stamina's plan is simply to go where the music takes him - to emcee with a range of DJs and styles, and to take on more studio projects both vocal and production-wise.

For bookings, please contact: paula@play-agency.com

If you need any further info / a press pack for any artists, please get in touch. We'll get back to you a.s.a.p. to discuss your event / artist availability etc.

many thanx,

Paula
