Meat Katie News, March 2005
Right, first off many thanks for everyone who voted for me, HUM, & Lot49 at Breakspoll. Although I left empty handed I was over the moon with those few nominations. It was the fist year I’ve had a look in at this event and I feel that it’s a testament to the quality of the tech-style of breaks I am involved in. It’s good people are making the connection and now viewing it as a form of breakbeat and although we draw inspiration from electro, techno & house, it’s no less relevant than those in the scene who draw from hip hop & drum & bass, or even rave. That’s the beauty of breakbeat, anything goes!!
Recording:
Not much to report again sorry to say! The next release I'm involved in is Peace Divisions 'It’s Here Its Now' on Low Pressings, due out soon (which I’ve remixed). Also the final touches are being put to the collaboration I’ve worked on with Aquasky, which will feature on their forth-coming album on Passenger. As for my joint album with Elite Force we have been hard at it with vocalist's Pete Simpson & Roland Clark but recording has been halted as we have been asked to remix the next Infusion single, which we jumped at! With regards to my solo stuff, I’m making a start this week (honestly!). I have a track I need to mix down which myself & Dylan Rhymes have been working on and I've also done a track with a producer called Paul Rogers from Sumsonic (he's really tall!) - but again it needs a decent mix down. So, all in all I’ve been super busy, but I have nothing to play you yet, sorry!
Websites:
www.lot49.co.uk &
www.meatkatie.com
The new sites are now working; check out the gallery on meatkatie.com if you saw me play over the Xmas period your more than likely be up there as there’s lots of crowd action. Also, very soon I’m going to add a new page to Lot49 site so you can hear the up and coming releases. I will try to get this organized ASAP, as many of you are gagging to know what’s on its way, and I have no reason not to let you hear. The site has also been redesigned and tweaked and will now feature news updates a couple of times a week – so make sure you keep an eye on it.
LOT49:
What’s happening? Next up La Liga 'What You Wanna' with a solid Koma & Bones remix shortly followed by the big man from Seville (Spain), Peter Paul, with 'Crystalline'. This will be backed with a Paranoid Jack remix too. We are going to pick up the pace this year, as I’ve been signing new tracks like there is no tomorrow! The way I see it, is if there are good tunes and I’m playing them every set, then let’s just get them out!
HUM:
We are back on 12th March with myself, Rennie Pilgrem, Will Saul and guests Atomic Hooligan and General Midi. After a good few years of throwing free parties that dark day has come when we have to impose a charge. A change in our deal with Canvas has prompted this, but don’t freak out, it’s only going to be &5. We’re still going to keep the guest list system as it seems to make sure the true lovers of the night come (that’s why the atmosphere is always warm & friendly.....not to mention going offffff!). We’ve also cut back on capacity; this has been a conscious decision by myself, Rennie & Adrian (the promoters of Hum). We were feeling the night was growing into a rave (just by the pure size of it, 1700 people at its height). Although we have had a great time doing the large-scale parties, Hum has always been a club in our minds and we want to return to that intimate night we started over three years ago which was just about the music. Get your arse down there early to avoid
being left out in cold! (literally)
10-6am @ Canvas, London

TECH-FUNK SELECTION:
On
www.ministryofsound.com/radio
Every other Wednesday (next show is 3rd of March) between 6 - 8PM GMT.
The Techfunk Selection will now be hosted by myself and Lot49 label manager and Urban Gorilla resident, Dean Muhsin. He’ll be taking one show a month, and I’ll be doing the other. Dean will be covering more of the house end of tech-funk whereas I’ll be looking after my end of things, which will give the show a broader range of styles.
This week’s show is myself and Vlad (Breakneck, LondonBreakz) will be showcasing some of his Sokolov Sound’s label output, so don’t forget to tune in!
Please feel free to email any shouts or requests while the show is on. Email
studio@ministryofsound.com & put TECHFUNK as the subject or
DEAN@LOT49.CO.UK in advance.
FABRIC LIVE 21:
I’ve nailed it! Obviously it’s hard to put all your ideas on just one CD, especially when your taste is all over the shop (like mine!), but I’m pretty chuffed with the way its turned out. I’ve managed to touch on all the elements I wanted to; house, electro, techno, rough, dirty, deep, funky, twisted & techy and all on a bed of breaks. I put a lot of thought into this one & I felt it was too good any opportunity not to show case some of the new Lot49 shit (all exclusively). I hope you all enjoy it and those lovely people over at fabric are going to make the mix available on-line for only &6.00 which needless to say, is a lot cheaper than anywhere else in the World.
