It is said that all good things come in two's, though you can find a few examples which prove the opposite. On the other hand, when talking about drum&bass, then 2 is really a magical number. No doubt that a good DJ is fun, but 2 good DJs back to back are certainly better. The same goes for MC's and most of all producers, because we believe that they achieve their most potential when working in two's.
When talking about our December guests, the rule of number 2 gets another dimension – just like Jing and Jang, the dark and wild
Jenna G presents the opposite to the cold and precise
Kabuki, but the entirety that they make is more complete than when they are apart. In this pair the woman side is dominant, and how wouldn't it be when Jenna G is without no doubt the best and most recognized vocalist in the history of drum&bass.
What Diane Charlemagne started with Goldie's Timeless,
Jenna assiduously continued and became the star of British black music, a singer and MC that not only supports many DJs but also steals the whole show. At the age of 14 she started DJing and performing with several bands, and in year 2000. together with two producers sets up the band
Un-Cut and releases one of the biggest drum&bass hits
Midnight. Soon after, she starts collaborating with
Goldie and
So Solid Crew and gets a hosting spot on the very popular radio station
BBC 1xtra. Alongside her radio career, Jenna begins work on her first solo album
For Lost Friends which gets released in 2006. on Zinc's label
Bingo and becomes an instant classic. Each of the 14 songs were produced by another producer so on the album you can find names like
Shy FX, Zinc, Total Science, Commix, Kabuki and
Nu:Tone, and her greatest hit, a beautiful love song
In Love finds its way in the selection of the worlds greatest DJs, from the deceased
John Peel, Giles Peterson to the leaders of drum&bass,
Andy C and
Hype, making it one of the most recognized drum&bass songs of all time. The huge success of the album didn’t go unnoticed in circles outside of drum&bass, so Jenna starts her work on some other projects of which the most interesting would be her collaboration with house superstars
The Shapeshifters.
Kabuki on the other hand, belongs to the first generation of German drum&bass producers who managed to break the invisible barrier located somewhere above the La Manche and started releasing for prominent British drum&bass labels. Even though he’s been on the scene for over a decade, he still tirelessly performs across the globe and releases for labels like
Bingo Beats,
Liquid V and
Precision Breakbeat Research. Kabuki is also the author of the 10 year old hit that is still played in clubs,
Beneath The Mask, a techstep cover of the Kenji Kawai theme from the anthological anima cartoon
Ghost In the Shell.
As a producer Kabuki mainly concentrates on liquid funk, but as a DJ he likes melodic and dancefloor friendly tunes no matter which style they are, so even though he’s an excellent entertainer on his own, he’s also perfect company to Jenna’s voice.
So if you want to hear the sweetest voice of (not only) drum&bass accompanied by one of the most important German DJs and producers, if you want to know what fast soul music is and feel the energy, joy and love which this music brings, we recommend that you come on the 12th of December to club Aquarius.
